Engine Speed Bump

The engine had a loud ticking / knocking that I suspected could either be the bottom end, or possibly the timing belt tensioner. After performing a full timing belt job, the knocking noise remained. When pulling the injector plug on cylinder one, the noise went away. Leading the issue to be the bottom end itself.

The good news is there are no metal shavings when draining the oil and cutting the filter open. A few suggestions pointed out to be a possible wrist-pin failure in it's early stages. Only time will tell. Should it be something obvious that doesn't require an engine tear down, then I may consider fixing the issue and slapping back together. and t

However if the engine is torn down, then an engine refresh only makes sense. At least I have all brand new timing belt components and will need not worry about it for another 40-50k.

With that being said, ends the adventure for the evo for the rest of the year. It will be put in my garage until the end of winter.

DSM/Evo Shootout 2017

So I finally decided to take the dive, and drive to the DSM/Evo Shootout. Since the Evo is a more fun/comfortable car all around then the GSX, I decided to make a road trip of it.

Washing her at a coin wash. ( No brushed used except on wheels! )

The Bad
The shootout was a blast, however the final hours upon us leaving, my 4G63 engine started developing a tapping sound which I assume is coming from the head. After driving for a few hours ( no choice really ), the sound has considerably increased, leading me to believe either Rod Knock has developed, or some sort of Valve Train issue.

Here is a thread on it:

Grinding the 5th

The car shifts like butter with the new fluid change. However I am noticing that when entering 5th gear at any RPM, I am getting cringing grind.

Delaying shifts do not seem to help a lot. This is quite worrying as the car is almost undrive-able with 5th gear acting like this right after the fluid change.

Will be switching to Red-Line MT90 and report back.

Transmission and Rear Diff Fluid change

Changed the Transmission Fluid with Amsoil Synthetic, and the rear differential with Diaqueen.

Fuel Injector Resistor Box ( failed and replaced )

So a lot has happened. Well, not really. But time has gone by without me updating this. At this moment as I am writing this, I am currently in Miami. I brought the car down with me via Auto-Train to avoid putting unnecessary miles while driving down.

Evo has been extremely reliable with no issues. Until yesterday when the car was only firing on 3-injectors.

A quick bit of research and I seem to find the answer to my problem/
I'm giving this a bump, as I suddenly ran into this issue out of no where.

I pulled my Injector Resistor Box and tested for resistance.

Pins:
3-1 : 6.5
3-4 : 6.5-6.9
3-5: 6.5-6.7
3-6: 27.80-29.03

So I am deeming this box faulty. Will be ordering another one from Mitsubishi tomorrow. Will let you guys know if this fixes the issue ( though, it should ).
